Introduction

Mankind has been associated through history, with the space around him. This association stems from his relationship and interaction with the environment and the physical, economic, and social factors surrounding him.  With the increase in population and resources, physical planning became a reflection of the socio-economic and the national development situation in general.  A perfect physical planning considers all variables of time and place, as well as the present and future needs.  It helps the materialization of the concept of sustainable development which considers traffic and transportation services as one of its pillars and main indicators.

Thus, states and cities alike pay greater importance to the development of the physical planning, traffic and transportation sectors and set top priorities of development strategies within their efforts in upgrading and developing the infrastructure.
